Our free recruitment service, B&D Works, provides one-to-one support to residents to write their CVs, apply for jobs and improve their interview techniques, with exclusive access to job opportunities across a wide range of sectors – including a dedicated construction programme.
One of our residents, ‘SC’, worked as a part-time Sports Coach for over 5 years whilst in receipt of Disability Living Allowance. They were looking to move their career on and were interested in understanding and accessing work in the construction industry.
SC met with a B&D Works job broker, discussed possible apprenticeships and training to develop their trade skills. They enrolled onto a Traineeship, and through this programme covered a mixture of theory and practical training.
The Traineeship gave SC the opportunity to study Carpentry 5 days a week over 6 weeks. After a work placement with Nu Living, they successfully interviewed and are now employed in the construction industry.
“My experience at [B&D Works] helped me to feel like I made a real change in my life and this experience has helped me to move forward in the construction sector”.
Our construction programme helps to match local residents with opportunities on construction projects across the borough. Our training centre – the Barking Riverside Innovation in Construction (BRIC) centre – offers nationally recognised qualifications that are essential for anyone wishing to work on a construction site as well as those seeking to upskill and renew their tickets, including an on-site test centre where you can take your CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test and CSCS card assessments.
