The Skills Builder Programme - Empowering the Next Generation

What’s It All About?

The construction industry is growing fast, but there aren’t enough skilled workers to keep up. That’s where the Skills Builder Programme comes in. It’s designed to help young people (like you!) learn the skills needed to build a successful future in construction.

How It Works

We team up with schools, employers, and local organisations to find Social Value projects happening in your area. These projects are matched with contractors who are already working in the community. Then, we select students aged 16–18 to join the team and get hands-on experience.

You’ll:

  • Work on real construction sites (safely!)
  • Learn practical skills
  • Meet employers and build your network
  • Boost your CV for college, uni, apprenticeships, or jobs

Why Join?

This programme gives you:

  • Real experience on a construction site
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • A better understanding of what it’s like to work in construction
  •

A chance to explore different trades like:

    • Bricklaying
    • Carpentry
    • Electrical work
    • Drylining & Ceiling fitting
    • Painting & Decorating
    • Plumbing
    • …and more!

And don’t worry—it all happens during school or college holidays, so it won’t affect your studies!

Safety First

Your safety is our top priority. Here’s how we keep things safe:

  • You’ll be supervised by experienced professionals
  • We follow strict safety rules
  • You’ll get full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to wear on site
  • You’ll be expected to follow instructions and wear your PPE at all times

Why It Matters

The construction world is changing fast—with more focus on digital tools and green technology. But there’s a big skills gap. In fact, the UK will need over 250,000 new workers by 2028!

In places like Barking and Dagenham, there are loads of new construction and green jobs coming. Programmes like this help you get ready for those opportunities.
