The Adult college is a friendly and supportive learning environment with free courses, enabling residents to improve their skills and gain qualifications.

Sangita, a mum of two, came to London in 2018. Keen to improve her English skills, she joined an ESOL course whilst her children were at school.

Doinita, came to London from Romania with her son and initially was unable to communicate in English.

The Adult college supported both these women, like many others, by providing free introductory courses in ESOL, English, maths and Digital Skills to support residents to raise their skills, enabling them to take their next steps in education.

By provided the essential skills necessary to enable residents to communicate with their GP, children’s school, make friends and connect with their local community.

Sangita said:I decided I should learn English at The Adult College to improve my speaking. I enrolled onto ESOL courses and after few moths I also enrolled on a Childcare Introduction.  I struggled in the first few classes not only because of my language barrier, but I also struggled with IT.

After completing my Level 1 Childcare course, I went on and completed Level 2. I also completed Maths Level 2, ESOL Level 1 and IT Level 2.

I am so grateful that I completed my education…The College provided me with all the support that I needed. All the teachers are very helpful, and staff are extremely friendly. They are always happy to help”.

Doinita said: “When I came to London, I hardly knew a word of English. I signed up for an English course for beginners…and now I am at Entry level 3. Now I am able to go by myself to see my doctor…I can listen to the news on TV and read the newspapers. In…two years’ time (I hope) to find a job”.

Whether it’s looking to improve your day to day life, to furthering your career, there is something for anyone wanting to start or continue with their learning.
