Laying the Foundations For A Career In Construction

Charlotte registered with B&D Works after her work coach at Barking Jobcentre Plus referred her. She was receiving Universal Credit and aiming to pursue a career in the construction sector but was unsure where to begin.

The B&D Works team encouraged her to attend the Wates development traineeship on Gascoigne West Estate, where she received an introduction to bricklaying, her CSCS card, and onsite work experience. This course provided valuable insights into construction site work and basic trade skills for her career development.

Having completed the traineeship, Charlotte was referred for a traffic marshall vacancy working directly with Jerram Falkus.  On completing a successful interview, she was booked on a training course and is now working as part of the site development team at Roxburgh Road.

‘The B&D Works job shop has helped open up a pathway into construction for me. They provided me with the necessary help and courses to help me get that foot in the door. Within construction, I have had many opportunities to learn new skills and advance my career’.
