Good Food Enterprise

We have increased the number of food stalls in Barking market and supported a new street food hub and community kitchen at Factory 15 on Linton Road in Barking town centre.

And we are working with the City of London and other partners on longer plans for a major new world food hall in Barking town centre – providing a retail face for the wholesale markets, space for local food entrepreneurs, and great tasting food that celebrates the diversity of food cultures in the borough.

We are currently running two programmes to support local food businesses to grow and access these and other new opportunities – funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund:

  • Amplify: This new local business support programme includes 121 mentoring and sector-specific support to help local food businesses to grow and improve – delivered in partnership with the Barking Enterprise Centre (BEC)
  • Good Food Retail: A targeted programme to help local convenience stores meet the demand for more fresh, healthy and sustainable produce, delivered in partnership with independent food retail experts Rice Marketing

Good Food Enterprise Charter

We are committed to improving the food offer in the borough through new spaces and support for local food businesses and entrepreneurs

Our Good Food Enterprise Charter is a best-practice framework to support food businesses to provide more of the healthy, sustainable food residents are asking for. It includes four priorities in which businesses can take action, and guidance on changes businesses can make.

Apply for a grant or digital badge

To support businesses on this journey, we are awarding small grants of up to £2,000 in partnership with Barking Enterprise Centre. Grants will be available until March 2025.

Businesses taking some action in all four priority areas can apply for a Food Enterprise Network digital badge, giving them priority access to current and future trading and funding opportunities.

Sign up to the charter and join our mission to create a healthy, diverse and thriving local food economy!
