Food
In 2022, we secured £1m from the City of London Corporation to invest in:
- Skills and resources for residents and community organisations to grow, cook and eat more affordable, healthy and sustainable food
- Food education and catering in local schools and colleges to support access to nutritious food, healthy habits and stronger pathways to good jobs and careers in food
- Food and hospitality courses promoting sustainability, innovation and inclusion for businesses, communities and workers, to grow and improve the local food economy
- New business support and infrastructure for local food enterprises and entrepreneurs, to improve the food offer in our town and district centres
The investment was provided alongside the City’s plans to relocate their historic wholesale food markets to Dagenham Dock. While the markets are no longer moving, the investment continues to contribute to a dynamic programme of work that is improving residents’ access to healthy, sustainable and culturally diverse food, giving young people access to inspiring food education and career opportunities and supporting local food businesses.
