Mock Interview Day Helps REACH Students Build Confidence and Career Skill

As part of their Social Value commitment to LBBD, twelve suppliers took part in a mock interview event at Barking & Dagenham College for students on the REACH supported employment programme. The experience was aimed at supporting young adults with SEND as they develop their employability skills. Across the day, the suppliers conducted a total of 22 mock interviews, giving each participant the valuable opportunity to experience two interview sessions with different professionals. This structure enabled the young adults to practice responding to varied questions, build confidence, and receive a broader range of constructive feedback.

The suppliers brought diverse industry experience, helping participants gain insight into workplace expectations while showcasing their strengths in a supportive environment. Staff from the college and supplier organisations praised the students’ enthusiasm, preparation, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones. Overall, the event provided a meaningful platform for employers to engage directly with SEND learners, while empowering the young adults to develop essential skills that will support their future career aspirations.

One student said: ‘The job interview practice was amazing, it made me feel relaxed and interested in finding a job’.
