We are looking to hire an Accounts Assistant to administer the weekly paid staff payroll and manage the purchase ledger for the business. The right individual will ideally have some payroll and purchase ledger experience and be willing to grow into the role. The position will actively support the finance team with indirect tasks and work closely with other team members as well as the Finance Director. A suitable candidate will have the ability to work both alone and part of a team with the ambition to take on new and more demanding tasks as the role expands.

Job Role

The candidate would learn a wide range of skills working alongside our experienced finance team.

Tasks will include:

Purchase ledger end of month reconciliations and payments
Supplier statement reconciliations
Support finance team bank reconciliations and petty cash
Subcontractor application checking and posting
Surveyor payment notice processing
Subcontractor HMRC and bank detail verification
Post, reconcile and pay staff expense claims
Receive and record weekly paid staff timesheets (15 Staff)
Process weekly paid staff payroll, send our payslips and communicate with staff
Submit weekly pension contributions
Calculate and post supervision recharges
Maintain a database of subcontractor insurance
Taking on new responsibilities as the role expands.

Candidate Profile

This role will offer the candidate a long-term career path within the organisation.

Although it is not essential candidates may have already completed or be working towards an AAT qualification or similar.

  • Must be IT literate including Excel
  • Minimum GCSE or A-levels in English and Maths
  • Proven ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Consistently looking to build knowledge in the finance area
  • A good communicator with initiative
  • Well organised and good with task management
  • Must have a strong work ethic
  • Professional attitude and reliable
  • Payroll processing experience preferred
  • Ideally has work experience in a finance department

Working Hours – Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm from our head office in Barking
