The purpose of this role
We aim to recruit individuals who can give an organic friendship as an emotional support for care leavers.
Role expectations
To be a travel buddy for appointments such as home office, interviews, higher educational inductions.
To be an accompanied friend to events that some young people have never attended such as theatre or theme parks.
Who will you be supporting?
Young people/ Adults aged of 16 and above from various backgrounds including asylum seekers, these young people will need somebody who can enhance their confidences.
Who can apply?
Due to the vulnerability of the young people you will be supporting, we would like individuals who will create organic & lasting relationships that will require long term commitment. We aspire to create a group of people who care leavers will be familiar with.
If you are over 21 years old and believe you have relational skills, this will be for you.
We need volunteer who are:
Ø Patient and have listening skills
Ø Able to engage in a conversation
Ø Have a friendly & enthusiastic approach
Ø Be non-judgemental and empathetic
Ø Be reliable & committed.
Ø If possible, DIY skills
Ø Be responsible for always safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people/adults.
Ø Have respect for different ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds.
Ø Able to commit to 3 to 4 hours per week to a days travel for a minimum two years.
Ø Able to speak different languages especially
You will learn how to:
Ø Engage with young people/adults especially those leaving care.
Ø Learn skills that could lead to a career in social care
